The real estate chain accounts for 36% of carbon emissions. It will therefore have to be particularly mobilized to limit the global rise in temperatures to 1.5°C by 2050. But the carbon objective in terms of reducing greenhouse gas emissions — the necessary race to “net zero” — sometimes masks blind spots in the ecological trajectory: climate resilience, biodiversity and the service added value of buildings for sustainable cities. If it only focuses on its carbon emissions, the real estate industry could experience a real shock of ecological obsolescence in the coming years.
