Educational real estate, a niche, but for how long?

Educational real estate had a record year in 2022. With rapidly growing student numbers and continuing expansion through the creation of new apprenticeships, real estate demand from private higher education actors has never been so high: “Observing the volumes invested in teaching premises or in school leases, we note a fairly clear increase starting in 2019, and which has been increasing since the start of the health crisis”, explains. David Bourla, director of studies at Knight Frank France. Thus, in a recent study, the council figures the volumes invested in France in this sector since 2016 at nearly €1.3 billion. “Confirming the enthusiasm of investors, €330 million were committed in 2022, representing a slight decrease of 3% compared to 2021, but more than double the average annual volumes recorded between 2016 and 2021,” adds David Bourla.
