Quebec City-based developer Capwood has opened a new upscale food hall in its $100 million QG Sainte-Foy mixed-use residential and commercial project at 990 route de l’Église in Québec City.
The 35,000-square-foot District Gourmet food hall, set in a giant glass atrium, seats 400 people and has three outdoor patios. The project cost Capwood $40 million, according to Ha Bui, director of operations and legal affairs at Capwood.
The project will eventually include 11 restaurants, one café, one bar and one grocery store for in-house dining, takeout or delivery, said Bui in an email to CoStar News. District Gourmet currently offers seven takeout or sit-down options, and delivery will be offered in the coming months.
The food hall is part of Capwood’s QG Sainte-Foy, a 123-unit condo building.
“The QG Sainte-Foy is a new innovative concept ... that integrates all services in a single building thanks to gourmet, health and services districts,” Capwood said in a statement.
After initially announcing the District Gourmet project in the fall of 2018, Capwood announced a complete redesign of the space in January 2021 to reflect changing consumer needs during the pandemic. The developer added a takeout space that allows customers to order online or in person, according to the statement.
“The space was completely redesigned in order to respect the new standards of social distancing while ensuring smooth, one-way traffic thanks to two doors, one of which will serve as an entrance and the other as an exit,” said Capwood in the statement.
Capwood has announced plans to develop another QG project on the vacant Îlot Charlevoix lot in Old Quebec, according to the company's website. The developer has not yet announced when the project will be completed, but construction is set to begin in spring 2022.
